According to EW, the trailer gives us a look at the colorful characters of the upcoming reimagined origins of the boy who never grew up, Peter Pan. In "Pan," Hugh Jackman plays the villainous Blackbeard, the pirate crew aboard a flying ship who steals orphans. Levi Miller who plays Peter Pan must now team up with Hook, played by Garrett Hedlund, who is portrayed as an American-accented miner described as a “dashing Indiana Jones-like figure.”
Other cast include Rooney Mara, who plays the controversial Tiger Lily, who is traditionally depicted as a Native American; Amanda Seyfried as Peter's mother or Mary; Cara Delevingne as a mermaid; Adeel Akhtar as Smee among others.
"Pan" will be Levi Miller’s major film debut. Miller has previously appeared only in the musical "A Heartbeat Away" from 2011 with Sebastian Gregory, Isabel Lucas and William Zappa, and in short films such as "Akiva" (2010) and "Great Adventures" (2012). He played General Philbrick as a Child in one episode of "Terra Nova" TV series.
The live-action fantasy origin film is directed by Joe Wright and produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Paul Webster. Screenplay is written by Jason Fuchs based on "Peter Pan" by Scottish novelist and playwright J.M. Barrie.
Wright is known for his works on "Pride & Prejudice," "Atonement," "Hanna," and his 2012 adaptation of the classic "Anna Karenina." After only five full-length features, Wright has distinguished himself as a director, winning a BAFTA award for best newcomer for "Pride & Prejudice" and becoming the youngest director ever to have a film open the Venice Film Festival with "Atonement."
“Pan” is set to be released by Warner Bros. on July 17, 2015.
