Patrick Osborne To Direct ‘Battling Boy’ Adaption After His Oscar Winning Animated Short Film ‘Feast’

Patrick Osborne, director of the much adorable and Oscar winning 2015 animated short film “Feast,”  has become a highly sought-after talent that has made him a short film directing gig and animated feature in the industry.

After the success of “Feast,” Patrick Osborne is all set to direct Paramount’s adaption of Paul Pope’s “Battling Boy,” the acclaimed graphic novel released in 2013 by publisher First Second, confirms Tracking Board.

With numerous scriptwriters, Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment has been developing “Battling Boy” since 2008.  “Battling Boy” focuses on the eponymous 12 years old demigod who must battle monsters and demons in Acropolis’s world. Acropolis is the land beset by horrible demons and monsters after the death of the hero, Haggard West, who kept them at bay.

“The Death of Haggard West” and “The Rise of Aurora West” are two of Paul Pope’s original work leading to two other entries in the series. Pope has also worked on a film adaptation that has been aired eventually.

Osborne started his career as an animator for films like “Surf’s Up,” “Bolt,” and “Tangled.” He will also direct and animate “Nimona,” adaptation of Noelle Stevenson’s comic for Fox Animation before he takes up Paul Pope’s idea. Though Jeremy Kleiner and Sarah Esberg, Paramount Plan B’s producers are producing this project, the release date or casting hasn’t yet been officially announced.

Osborne is also said to direct Pearl an interactive short for Google Spotlight stories. In addition, Pope had earlier worked on a film adaptation, which was eventually deferred.
