WARNING: This article contains spoilers for “Person of Interest” Season 4 Episode 11 “If-Then-Else.” Read only if you want to learn more about this episode.
According to the press release on Spoiler TV, “If-Then-Else” will be action packed and will pick up after the events of the previous episode. Following the events of the previous episode, this episode will see Team Machine — genius billionaire Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), hacker Samantha Groves or “Root” (Amy Acker, ex-CIA John Reese (Jim Caviziel) and New York Police Detective Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman) — in action as they infiltrate the Stock Exchange Building in order to prevent Samaritan from plunging the world into economic chaos after attacking the Stock Exchange.
According to the exclusive interview on TV Line with showrunner Greg Plageman, the next episode will definitely blow people’s minds as it will be a time-shifting episode. He also stated in the interview in the featurette that viewers and fans of the show will be able to see more of what the Machine is capable of doing and already warned that something totally shocking will happen in this episode, where anything is possible. This was confirmed by actress Sarah Shahi, who portrays Sameen Shaw, who stated in the featurette interview that nothing is safe in the world of “Person of Interest.” Plageman also mentioned that all of the interesting new elements regarding the Machine was brought into play by the writer of this particular episode. He said that at first they weren’t sure if they could pull it off, but after looking at it more closely, they decided that they definitely had to add it in. This came at the right time as this season was about the war between the Machine and Samaritan. The actors themselves are excited and ecstatic about how dark everything is getting, and viewers and fans might have to cross their fingers on this one, as Plageman has stated that not only will something shocking happen, but that it seems like they were given the opportunity to kill all of the characters in one episode. However, based on the clips featured in the featurette, it seems that Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), might be down for the count for a while as it seems like he gets shot.
Spoiler TV also provided two sneak peeks about what will be happening in the upcoming action-packed episode.
According to the first clip, Root (Amy Acker) and Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) infiltrated the Stock Exchange Building and allowed the Machine to have access to the cameras inside, while Samaritan remained blind. Root, carrying a metal briefcase, entered the service elevator with Finch. However, they were stopped and joined by their other allies, John Reese (Jim Caviziel) and New York Police Detective Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman).
In the second clip, the Machine detected several multiple threats. Root then told them that they were trapped, which was confirmed by John as the elevator was currently locked. They then followed Root who led the way as she explained that the building had been redesigned to go on lockdown after September 11 and that Samaritan was exploiting this detail to keep them inside. They then managed to take cover behind a desk, where Root looked at the camera and asked the Machine for help, as the door to the room was being barraged by bullets. While the Machine calculated the possible strategies they could use, the entire scene goes in slow motion.
