Pharrell Williams Reunites With N.E.R.D. for ‘Spongebob Movie’ Song
Pharrell Williams reunites with N.E.R.D. band members Chad Hugo and Shay Haley for a new song for the upcoming "Spongebob" movie. Read on for further details.
The new song titled “Squeeze Me” is the first song for the trio since they first released their music in 2010.
If this new track is anything like his most recent hit “Happy,” also from a children’s animated feature “Despicable Me 2,” then we sure are all in for a treat. “Happy” became such a hit and became one of the most-played songs of 2014. It even landed the no. 1 spot in Billboard’s year-end Hot 100 chart.
Speaking of their latest collaboration, Hugo told Variety that the group wanted to create a track similar to The Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine.” The song might be for an upcoming "Spongebob Squarepants" feature, but they wanted to create something that would appeal to a number of audience and not just to the kids.
“We’re trying not to think too much in a cartoon sense but more just like a psychedelic, otherworldy type of thing,” he described.
“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” was reportedly a 3D movie that combines animation with live-action. In his quest to find a stolen recipe, Spongebob (Tom Kenny) leaves Bikini Bottom and goes on an adventure with pals Patrick (Bill Fagerbakke), Squidward (Rodger Bumpass), Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown) and Sandy (Carolyn Lawrence).
“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” is a sequel to 2004’s “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie," which grossed over $140-million worldwide.
The film opens in theaters on Feb. 6, 2015.
