Phillip Phillips Wins American Idol
The American Idol held a two hour finale that featured lots of noteworthy performances. The 11th season of the show came down between 16 year old Jessica Sanchez and Southern boy Phillip Phillips. The two have different singing styles. Jessica Sanchez is a diva in the making while Phillip Phillips is an acoustic guitarist. After two hours of award-show like lavishness, Phillip Phillips was named as its winner.
The American Idol finale featured performances from Jennifer Lopez, Reba McEntire, John Fogerty, and others. The two finalists also sang Up Where We Belong before host Ryan Seacrest announced the season’s winner.
After being proclaimed the winner, Phillip Phillips got his acoustic guitar and sang Home, which a light folk rocker number written by Drew Pearson. His performance of the song last Tuesday during the final performance show won him praises from judges. Tears fell from him during the performance.
The American Idol finale ran for around 128 minutes and there were lots of memorable moments from it. Bruno Mars performed Runaway Baby that featured some of the previous American Idol contestants.
American Idol ratings were down but that didn’t stop the fans from voting for their favorite among the two finalists. Ryan Seacrest announced that a record 132 million votes were casted for the final 2.
John Fogerty sang Bad Moon Rising with Phillip Phillips. Fogerty did a good job but Phillips grimaced through every verse and sounded like he was singing a question. The performance got better when he let Fogerty sang most of the parts, just like in Have You Ever Seen the Rain.
Around 25 minutes into the finale episode of the 11th season of American Idol, Jessica Sanchez received little screen time. Instead, third place finisher Joshua Ledet was given more time on the screen. He sang Elton John’s Take Me to the Pilot with Fantasia.
