“Inside out” is an upcoming 3D computer-animated fantasy-comedy film produced by Pixar from an original idea from Peter Docter, the writer and director for “UP.” The said film will venture out to the minds and thoughts of the female adolescent.

According to Entertainment Weekly (EW), The pic was inspired by Docter’s daughter Elie, who has transformed  from being a mischievous girl into a “quiet” pre-teen as she approached adolescence.

“[As parents] we were like, ‘Wow, that’s so unlike her, what’s going on her brain? And that’s what lead to the heart of the story—the question of what goes on inside our own minds” said Docter in the EW interview.

The film is set in the head of a young girl, Riley Anderson, where five emotions—Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear and Sadness—try to lead the girl through her life. Riley who has lived most of her entire life in Midwest, gets uprooted from the life she’s familiar with when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Guided by her 5 emotions that live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, they help advice the young teen through everyday life.  As Riley and her emotions struggle to navigate a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

“[Joy] goes to places like dream productions, where dreams are shot live every night in this massive Hollywood studio with a back lot, props, and costumes, hopefully there will be multiple places where everyone just goes, ‘Whoa’” Docter adds.

“Inside Out” features the voices of Amy Poehler as Joy, Bill Hader as Fear, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Lewis Black as Anger, Phyllis Smith as Sadness and Kaitlyn Dias as Riley Anderson.

“The brain of a young girl is a funny, complex, and miraculous thing,” said Parks and Recs star, Amy Poehler, amused by the character she plays in the pic.

“Inside Out” is directed by Pete Docter, best known for directing the films “Monsters, Inc.” and “Up” and co-directed by Ronnie del Carmen and producer Jonas Rivera. The 3D computer-animated fantasy-comedy is produced by Pixar and to be distributed by  Walt Disney Pictures for a scheduled theatrical release in June 19, 2015.
