Project Runway All Stars Season 4 Recap: Mix and Match.Com
Valentine's Day comes too early in the new episode of "Project Runway: All Stars" Season 4 Episode 7 "Mix and Match.Com," which aired last Dec. 18, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. on Lifetime. In this episode, the designers compete in pairs and give New York singles the time of their life with fabulous designs.
Alyssa welcomes the designers in a new challenge. First of all, she tells them that they must be in pairs. Since Sonjia was the winner of the runway challenge last week, she is tasked to be the matchmaker.
Sonjia picks Dmitry for herself. Dmitry is proud because he thinks Sonjia considers him as the best in the group. Other pairs are Fabio and Jay, Sam and Michelle, and Justin and Helen.
The show has a project with Match.com to help New York singles find love. The designers must design date night looks for ordinary singles in their first date. The models will not take part temporarily in the runway show. Michelle realizes they will design for men, so she is nervous. The worse part, however, is they only have one day to complete their garments. The budget is $300 per pair.
The prize is a full-day pampering in a luxury spa date for two, sponsored by Match.com.
The designers meet their models in the working room. Men and women are gathered separately for the element of surprise. The singles are asked if what is their style while the designers share to them their suggestions. Jay and Fabio are excited to have a homosexual couple to work with.
While Helen and Justin are talking about the division of work, Justin will not let Helen do men's clothing. Helen is disappointed that Justin does not trust her.
Sam wants Michelle to do the men's clothing because she is more confident with Michelle's abilities. However, Michelle is not excited about the idea.
The designers head to shop for fabrics in 30 minutes. Jay purchases a pink fabric for his jacket because the texture is sophisticated and the color is "gay." Dmitry and Sonjia work well together in choosing the fabrics. The designers are maximizing their time well except for Michelle. She is feeling ill and cannot move much.
When the designers arrived from shopping, they only have 10 hours until the date night.
While Sam is fishing some suggestions for the skirt from Sonjia, Michelle feels worse because she thinks Sam is not helping her. Sam notices her partner feeling ill and asks her what is wrong. Michelle tells her she feels so dizzy and cannot measure the fabric straight. She feels hopeless and hysterical. She does not want to go home because of men's wear.
Sam compares the show to a crashing airplane. She explains that she must save herself first with oxygen before saving somebody else. She is not guilty at all for not helping Michelle.
Zanna suddenly enters the room to check their designs. She likes Helen's choice of color and style. She tells Justin to make his design more masculine. She does not like the silhouette of Sam's dress. She checks Michelle if she is okay, but Michelle guarantees she will get the job done. She loves Michelle's choice of fabric. She thinks Sonjia's dress is too loud in color so she must make a simpler design. She commends Dmitry for the technical aspect of his garment. She tells Fabio his design is sophisticated and simple. She is in disbelief when she sees Jay's pink jacket. She is not sure if it will work for a "buff Australian."
After the runway show, the designers will be critiqued one by one. Starting with Sonjia's garment, the judges love the color. The neon blue dress makes the client stand out. However, Georgina does not like the crescent moon-shaped cut-out near the midriff. Judges like the detail of the dress. Alyssa thinks the client looks beautiful in the dress, but she thinks the dress is not fit for date night.
Judges think Dmitry's design must have more color despite the classy look. Georgina says the client looks like he is married for 20 years. The client, however, defends Dmitry by saying he received a lot of compliments with the shirt.
In the end, Fabio wins the challenge because of his bold and innovative design. The bottom two is Helen and Justin because of their lack of chemistry in the designs. However, the judges give them a second chance because they still believe in their abilities as individuals. Nobody is eliminated for the week.
