Rangers Update: Read the Nuanced, Mature Character Bios For 2017’s ‘Power Rangers’ Film Here!

Power Rangers are all set to ‘Go-go’, in a ‘mature yet playful’  reboot coming to the screen in 2017, helmed by “Project Almanac” director Dean Israelite. Find out more about the heroes and villains in this version of the Rangers, after this break. Read on.

The folks over at  Collider have published a helpful guide to the names and character bios of our spandex-clad teenage superheroes from the upcoming movie. And boy, does it look exciting. With a nuanced and mature take on the team that is unlike anything the franchise has handled, the movie sure looks like it has got its characters to the tee.

Take a look, for instance, at Jason, who is most likely going to be the Red Ranger:

“17 years old, the makings of someone or something great if he would just get out of his own way. Jason was a legend of this town—a freshman quarterback with the skills to take him all the way. Until, one night Jason wrapped his car around a pole and busted out his knee. Everything Jason was going to become ended in an instant. And with it, he lost himself. When we meet him at the start of the film, he’s a kid in need of redemption. By the end, he’ll be leading this disparate group of teens to shed their individual baggage and find who they truly are.”

We also have a “rebellious and edgy” pink ranger, a blue ranger with OCD and a black ranger who suffers a secret inferiority complex. This kind of complexity is unheard of in the “Power Rangers” franchise. In the previous versions, the show usually has the cardboard characters used as an excuse to get from one flamboyant fight scene to another.

As Movie News Guide reported before, an inside source revealed the scoop on the antagonists in the anticipated “Power Rangers” movie as Rita Repulsa and Zardon. Described as “the huntress” and “the alien,” it looks like Israelite is going to live up to his promise of making the movie realistic yet playful.

“Power Rangers” hits the screens on Jan 13, 2017, and is being produced and distributed by Lionsgate & Saban Entertainment.
