Recap: How I Met Your Mother Season 9, Episode 6
Spoiler alert! Do not read if you haven’t yet seen How I Met Your Mother Season 9, Episode 6.
In this episode, though not as good as you’d expect from the final season standards of How I Met Your Mother, Barney cooks up a wild plan to get his mother, Loretta (Frances Conroy) to get back with his father (Ben Vereen). Forget Jerry’s marriage, logic, etc. Barney’s looking for a childhood fairytale.
But Barney’s brother, James (Wayne Brady), isn’t having it. James devised a plan to reunite his own father (Ben Vereen) with Loretta.
One of the most interesting parts of tonight’s episode was the odd black and white song scene and which included Barney, Loretta and Barney’s dad (Ben Vereen). Though there were two redeeming qualities to the performance which were, Wayne Brady’s voice (More Wayne Brady, More Wayne Brady! ) and Loretta’s (Frances Conroy’s) 1950s get up.
It turns out Barney’s plan comes to no avail as we find out that Loretta has secretly been ahem, being intimate with James dad and eventually Barney fails to have his family reunited but James does and like Robin said, ”He’s the one that needs it right now”.
Moving on to Ted and Lily now. Someone spills a whole pot of Ted’s calligraphy ink on an autographed picture of Wayne Gretzky (O dear God!…… Ted’s calligraphy ink!). No worries as detective Mosby comes to the rescue (no Sherlock but just the man for the job).
As it turns out, the culprit is Billy Zabka who spilled ink on the picture just so he could become Barney’s best man……….Again.
Apart from that we did get some great insight on the Pineapple Incident accompanied by a Homeland inspired yarn-map. Whatever happens along the way in the season, we have to see this particular incident solved otherwise the whole season would be considered a waste.
Back to Marshall and Daphne. Both of them at first bond with each other over the song 500 miles. However, Daphne seems to be upset over the fact that her daughter tells her not to come to her Model UN conference.
But, Marshall being the good guy as he is (a little too much, verging on a bit of an annoyance now) saves the day as he wakes up Daphne and they’ve already arrived at the conference. Will this be the end of Daphne in the HIMYM series? Because we can’t wait for Marshall to get back together with the gang again.
