‘Red Oaks’ Promotes Alexandra Socha to Series Regular
Young actress and Broadway singer Alexandra Socha has been made series regular in Amazon’s comedy series “Red Oaks.” The show is part of Amazon’s second batch of pilots that premiered last Aug. 2014. Read on for more about this news update.
Originally only set to guest star on “Red Oaks,” Socha’s participation in the series has been up to series regular, Variety exclusively reports. The actress, who first had her start in acting on Broadway, plays Skye, the daughter of the head of the Red Oaks Country Club where the lead character, David Myers (Craig Roberts) works. In the pilot episode (air date: Aug. 28, 2014), David encounters a mysterious girl while doing his tasks as an assistant tennis pro and he’s so drawn to her. David realizes later that she’s actually the daughter of Mr. Getty (Paul Reiser), who happens to be his boss.
While trained on a stage, Socha has had a few guest appearances on other television programs, mostly in cable shows like “The Big C,” “Damages” and “Royal Pains.” The actress is well-known for theater lovers particularly for her performance in Broadway’s “Spring Awakening,” which ran in 2008.
“Red Oaks” also stars Jennifer Grey, Gage Golightly, Oliver Cooper, Richard Kind, Josh Meyers and Alexandra Turshen. It’s a coming of age story of one college kid (David), which has been created by produced by Gregory Jacobs and executive produced by Steven Soderbergh. The two have previously worked together on several film projects. Jacobs based the character of David from his life in the 80’s, which incidentally, is also the time period for the series.
The show was one of the two pilots from their batch that was given a greenlit by Amazon Studios in Oct. 2014. The full first season is expected to roll out later this year.
In discussing what viewers can expect from the show, Jacobs said that the whole of season one will cover the whole summer period, describing this as “one crazy summer” for the main character.
