‘Resident Evil 6’ Postpones Production Due to Milla Jovovich’s Pregnancy
Constantin Film are pushing back the filming of the sixth and possibly final installment of their horror action movie franchise “Resident Evil,” a spin-off adaptation of the famous survival horror game of the same name until next year. Read on to learn more about this movie update.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), “Resident Evil” lead star Milla Jovovich and director Paul W. S. Anderson, who are a real-life couple, are expecting their second child. Jovovich recently confirmed the pregnancy news on her official Facebook page.
The couple got married on Aug. 22, 2009. They had their first child, a daughter named Ever Gabo Anderson, on Nov. 3, 2007 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Jovovich and Anderson met while working on the 2002 film “Resident Evil”, which Anderson wrote and directed, and in which Jovovich starred. Anderson proposed to Jovovich in 2003, but the two separated for a period of time before becoming a couple again.
Jovovich explained that the couple’s plans to move forward with an upcoming sequel “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” will be delayed.
“So after a lot of discussion, we thought it would be in everyone’s best interest to wait till the baby is born before we set out to try and tackle [a new Resident Evil] movie – Between the stunt work and what will become my ever-expanding belly, we didn’t think pregnancy and zombie killing are the best combo!” said Jovovich on her Facebook account.
“[We] want to make the best movie possible” adds Jovovich who feels thankful for the support and patience the fans are making.
Deadline, on the other hand, reported that, the film was supposedly set to be shot at Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa this fall. But hopefully, it was also said that “they will be pushing the project back for only 10 months.”
“Resident Evil” is a film series loosely based upon the Capcom survival horror video game franchise of the same name. Constantin Film bought rights for the first film in January 1997 with Sony acquiring distribution rights. The Franchise consisted of 5 movies which were all written, produced and directed (three of the first five) by Anderson.
It stars Jovovich in an original character created for the film named Alice, who was an ex-security operative for Umbrella, a bioengineering pharmaceutical company responsible for the zombie apocalypse, turned super-powered bad-ass. Resident Evil film series is the highest grossing film series to be based on video games of all time, grossing $915 million collectively worldwide.
“Resident Evil” 6 will probably released in 2015.
