Ricky Gervais to Produce The Office’s David Brent in Life on the Road

Actor Ricky Gervais is set to produce a David Brent movie, bringing “The Office” character in the big screens. Read on for more details on this story.

Ricky Gervais will be producing a film featuring his “The Office” character, David Brent, in “Life on the Road.” The feature film will follow Brent’s journey 15 years after leaving Werner Hogg to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a rock star. The film will be shot in a “mockumentary style,” a la “The Office,” backed by the BBC to go into production in 2015.

Ricky Gervais achieved mainstream fame with his portrayal in his television series “The Office” as David Brent and “Extras” as Andy Millman — both of which he co-wrote and co-directed with Stephen Merchant. “The Office” is a British sitcom which aired on BBC. It follows the day-to-day lives of office employees in the Slough branch of the fictitious Wernham Hogg Paper Company. Gervais stars as the central character, David Brent, with the program taking a form of a fictional documentary — a “mockumentary.”  It was later adapted on NBC with a series of the same name that starred Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, B. J. Novak and Ed Helms.

Gervais has starred in Hollywood films such as “Ghost Town,” “The Invention of Lying” and “Muppets Most Wanted.” Gervais has won seven BAFTA Awards, five British Comedy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, two Emmy Awards and the 2006 Rose d’Or, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. In 2007, he was voted as the 11th greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups and again in the updated 2010 list as the 3rd greatest stand-up comic. In 2010, he was named on the Time 100 list  as one of the world’s most influential people.

“He thinks it’ll be like Scorsese doing the Rolling Stones, but we’ll show the full horror,” adding, “He’s had to take two weeks off work and cash in his pension, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he’s getting in ticket sales,” said Gervais in a report from The Guardian.

That’s it for Ricky Gervais’ David Brent character, which will be featured on the movie “Life on the Road.” The film is currently in development with BBC Films and is set to go into production in 2015.
