Ronda Rousey Starring in “Road House” Remake to Kick Ass and Tend Bar
MMA’s whirlwind star Ronda Rousey is all set to take the big screen by storm by starring in the reboot of Patrick Swayze’s cult classic film, 1989’s “Road House.” Read on to find out more.
Rousey will reportedly take on Swayze’s role in the movie, the mysterious ‘Dalton’, professional bouncer. In the 1989 film, Dalton is sent to the toughest bar in Missouri, “The Double Deuce” and must take on the corrupt local tycoon with the power of his fists, and romance Kelly Lynch. At the time, “Road House” was received badly, but has gone on to gain a cult following for being-so-bad-its-good. As Roger Ebert puts it, “This is not a good movie. But viewed in the right frame of mind, it is not a boring one, either.”
Rousey apparently contacted Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi to ask her for her blessing. It was before stepping into her departed husband’s shoes for the film. The film is being produced by MGM, and will begin filming sometime in 2016, according to Variety.
Rousey, who is being hailed as MMA’s biggest star by UFC president Dana White, has already starred in “Entourage” and “Furious 7” this year. She started her film career with a cameo in “Expendables 3” in 2014. Now, she has already had three acting projects in which parts were specifically tailored for her to star in, her biopic “My Fight/Your Fight” at Paramount, “The Athena Project” at Warner Bros. and the STX action pic “Mile 22.” “Road House” will make it four.
That’s right, Rousey is so badass that she does not act like her characters, her characters act like her.
