Rupert Wyatt to Direct Channing Tatum’s ‘Gambit’
Ever since they were introduced, the X-Men, and the mutant members of their team, which were created by MARVEL, have graced both the small screen and the big screen, in animated and in live action form throughout the years and decades. Now, aside from movies and films regarding the main X-Men team, and of the mutant Wolverine, thanks to Channing Tatum and Twentieth Century Fox, the mutant Gambit will be brought to life on the silver screen. It was recently reported that the film, slated to premiere next year, has already found its director. Read on to learn more about who will be directing “Gambit.”
According to the official website of MARVEL, Remy Etienne LeBeau, more commonly known as the mutant Gambit, has the ability to turn the potential and passive energy of an object into kinetic energy when touches it. This allows him to create explosions based on the objects energy when he throws it. Gambit also has a “hypnotic charm.” It allows him to subtly influence anything that is sentient. He also can throw objects such as cards and small knives, accurately, is a good fencer, and can speak both in French and English.
Gambit quickly became a fan favorite after being created in the early ‘90s. He is part of different teams such as the X-Men, Marauders, X-Treme Sanctions Executive, and many other organizations. Gambit first appeared as himself in “Uncanny X-Men” issue two hundred and sixty-six in 1990, and his origin can be found in the first issue of his solo book, and in the eighth issue of “X-Men” that was published in 1992.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the project, in which Tatum will be starring in, is slated to be released on Oct. 7, 2016. The film finally has a director, in the person of Rupert Wyatt, who directed “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” which was also produced by the same company.
Aside from “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” Wyatt has also directed other projects such as “The Escapist.”
THR reported that the “X-Men” spin-off will be written by Josh Zetumer. Aside from Tatum, who will be portraying everyone’s favorite mutant thief, the movie will also be produced by Reid Carolin, Simon Kinberg, and Lauren Shuler Donner.
