Ryan Reynolds Explains How ‘Deadpool’ Will Be Different From ‘Green Lantern’

Actor and new dad Ryan Reynolds explains how things will be better for his upcoming comic book based movie “Deadpool” compared to the flop that was “Green Lantern.” Read on to know more about the details of this scoop.

DC Comics based films have long been shown in the big screen for years now. It seems that not all of them managed to reach the success that Marvel has started with their Cinematic Universe. Still, this did not stop studios from creating narratives and they even created the film “Green Lantern” back in 2011. However, it appeared as though the Ryan Reynolds starred film received the most negative comments because of the rampant failure of the elements that made up the movie. The film was dejected often until it became forgotten. Now, Ryan Reynolds makes a comeback in starring for another comic book based film, he assures that his new film, “Deadpool,” will not be making the same mistakes that “Green Lantern” did.

Based on the feature by Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds pointed out the plausible flaws that led to the failure of “Green Lantern” and how “Deadpool” will not be deferring from following such. The upbeat actor made an appearance at Yahoo Movies in light of the promotion of his comedic horror film, “The Voices.” It is there that he points out that “Deadpool” will be very different compared to his previous comic book based film efforts. He simply accentuated the presence of a compelling story embedded in an effective script.

“Well, script. When we shot Green Lantern, nobody auditioning for the role of Green Lantern was given the opportunity to read the script, because the script didn’t exist. I’m not complaining about it — it was an opportunity of a lifetime, and if I were to go back and retrace my steps, I would probably do everything the exact same way. But script, that’s what’s different from this one,” Reynolds said in his THR interview.

There comes a time in a movie production when the demand is so high that the key for everything, which is a great storyline, will get overlooked and that’s what most probably happened in “Green Lantern.” As opposed to the confirmation on the creation of “Deadpool” the script was already there but it was the studio that got caught up with indecisions that halted the procession of the production.

“We’ve had a script for three years. The script got leaked, and people even loved that. That says a lo– if you can create a script around a comic-book character that is directly within the canon of the character and be embraced. That’s a huge step in the right direction. I’ve since learned that a lot of superhero movies don’t really have a fully functioning draft of the screenplay ready until they’re already well into shooting,” ends Ryan Reynolds’ explanation on the matter.

As such, Ryan Reynolds will be actualizing a full length movie of “Deadpool” and it will open in theaters by Feb.12, 2016. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. announced their reboot of “Green Lantern” and it is slated for release by Summer of 2020.

That concludes our scoop on Ryan Reynolds’ explanation as to how “Green Lantern” failed and how “Deadpool” will be different. Continue to keep your tabs on Movie News Guide (MNG) for more information on upcoming films, popular celebrities and ongoing TV shows.
