Spoilers ahead! Read only if you want to know more about Movie News Guide’s (MNG) “Salem” Episode 13 “All Fall Down” spoilers and a quick recap of Episode 12 “Ashes, Ashes.”

“Salem” Season 1 Episode 12 “Ashes, Ashes” aired on July 6, 2014. It was directed by Bill Johnson and written by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon. The latest “Salem” episode began with the impeding trial of John Alden. He had been put into the hot seat by Increase (Stephen Lang). At first, John was accused of witchcraft. Increase used John’s connection with the Captain, Giles Corey and Bridget. He also added that John’s prayers were worthless.

Mercy (Elise Eberl), Mary’s newest witch protege, had been maximizing the use of her newly acquired powers. She had summoned all her normal girlfriends to testify against John in the trial. Unfortunately, they would still be hanged by Increase after the trial. Emily confessed to John that she’s sorry that she lied about him “sleeping” and selling their souls to the demon. Meanwhile, Mercy notified her other minion to call “all the sad and suffering” in order to have an army for the new “Queen of the Night.”

Cotton (Seth Gabel) was also there and had saved John from the accusations by discussing Increase’s disturbing torture devices. Cotton got the chance to study about the importance of the Malum in the Grand Rite. He also informed John that the Malum, which had been buried in Giles Corey’s grave, was missing. Anne also went to his home to help her know if she’s a really a witch, but Cotton didn’t see the warning signs.

Back at the trial, Increase found new charges that John was actually guilty of. John was now accused of treason against his own militia co-members and fellow soldiers. John confirmed this by telling the story of how the Mohawks healed him. When John and the “savages” returned, they found out that his fellow soldiers had destroyed the Mohawks’ home and killed the children and women. John has decided on avenging for the “friends” from the enemies.

On the other hand, a still-spellbounded Isaac talked sense to Mary (Janet Montgomery), who had been grieving over John’s future death. She even asked the higher witches in the coven if John was really included to the Grand Rite. It was said that he would be sacrificed with the other remaining deaths. Fortunately, Mary didn’t want that to happen to John.
