‘Saturday Night Live’ books Star Wars’ Kylo Ren Adam Driver as host in 2016 opening episode
Adam Driver has now leapt bounds from being just that awkward aspiring actor-slash-boyfriend in the HBO series “Girls.” He has gone from Adam Sackler to the new big baddie of the Star Wars franchise, Kylo Ren. As if anyone needs proof that his star shines brighter now than ever before, he has just scored a gig as the host of “Saturday Night Live.”
“Saturday Night Live” exited the year with a bang, bringing back Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to host the final episode of 2015. It looks like it is also set to welcome 2016 with another bang, as it is bringing in Star Wars’ Kylo Ren to host the first episode of the year. Well, not really Kylo Ren but the actor who so intensely portrayed the character in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Adam Driver.
The official “Saturday Night Live” Twitter account has announced Driver’s stint as host for the first episode in 2016. It will air on January 16 with no musical guest announced yet.
The “SNL” hosting is the 32-year old actor’s debut on the NBC’s comedy variety show but he has “appeared” on the show as parodied by Taran Killam in a mock “Girls” trailer in 2013. Screen Crush assumes that another “Girls” skit is up during Driver’s hosting gig, especially as the HBO drama is set to debut on February 21. Of course, a Star Wars-Kylo Ren skit may also be in the works.
The announcement had been well-received by fans, liking the “SNL” status more than 700 times. Driver’s role as Kylo Ren in “Star Wars 7” sure helps his star status. Sure, he has made a mark on “Girls” fans and even earned himself three Emmy Awards nominations for his role as Adam Sackler but nothing on the scale of the epic space opera. His name is now on the lips of every Star Wars fans.
