Scandal Season 6 Premiere Date, Update: Kerry Washington Gives Birth to Baby No. 2; When will She Start Filming?
Scandal star Kerry Washington, has given birth to a bouncing baby boy! The award-winning actress and her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, have welcomed their second child, Caleb Kelechi Asomugha, on Oct. 5.
The 39-year-old is currently on a break from filming the sixth season of Scandal. While ABC’s fall line-up is currently on full swing, new episode of the Washington’s political drama will not be released to television until January 2017. Moreover, Season 6 got a reduced episode order to accommodate the actress’ pregnancy.
However, fans can be assured that a new season is coming in 2017. Washington and the cast of the award-winning series have already filmed new episodes before the Emmy-nominated actress gave birth.
Because, her character, Olivia Pope is not pregnant on the show, Washington has to strategically hide her growing baby bump from the cameras. “Big coats, big bags … hiding behind different body parts of other actors,” the actress recounted on The Ellen Show. “Like, if I’m in the back of the room, it can be, like, somebody’s leg, and I’m positioned behind it.”
ABC picked up a new season of Scandal in March 2016. Meanwhile, production began by summer. As of this writing, the network has not announced whether Washington has finished filming all 16 episodes of Season 6 but, if not, she might be able to reprise her role in a few months or so.
This is not the first time that the series created by Shonda Rhimes received a shorter episode order. While she was pregnant her first child, Isabelle, in 2013, the episode order for Season 3 was cut down to just 18 episodes.
Season 6 of Scandal will have a more hopeful tone according to award-winning screenwriter. If, in the previous season, viewers saw Liv go through some dark personal issues, the next season will be a little merciful for the top crisis manager when it premieres in early 2017 on ABC.
