Scream Recap: Pilot
“Scream” Season 1 Episode 1 “Pilot” aired on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at 10:00 p.m. on MTV. In the pilot episode, after a rash of cyber-bullying occurred due to a posted video of Audrey Jensen (Bex Taylor-Klaus) that went viral, high school queen bee Nina Patterson (Bella Thorne) and her boyfriend are murdered by a mysterious figure in a mask. These murders rocked Lakewood to its core as they speculated whether another killing spree will happen again. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with a video of Audrey Jensen (Bex-Taylor Klaus) kissing another girl in a car going viral. It caused Audrey to get cyber-bullied overnight.
The video had been posted by high school queen bee Nina Patterson (Bella Thorne) with the help of her ex-boyfriend Tyler O’Neil (Max Lloyd-Jones).
Nina, home alone for the night, then got ready to get into the hot tub, but was interrupted by video messages taken of her at the moment. However, she dismissed it as she believed that it was just Tyler. However, after getting into the hot tub, Tyler’s head was thrown in, and after trying unsuccessfully to escape, Nina was stabbed in the back, and her throat was slit by a mysterious figure in a mask who dumped her body in her pool.
The next day, at school, everyone stared at Audrey, who had her camera on, until her best friend, Noah Foster (John Karna) arrived.
At a table in the school yard, good girl Emma Duvall (Willa Fitzgerald) told her friends that she thought that they had all deleted the video. They realized that the culprit was Nina. It made Emma a little bit upset as she and Audrey used to be friends.
During English class, they noticed Kieran Wilcox (Amadeus Serafini), the new student in town, as they discussed gothic literature. After Jake Fitzgerald (Tom Maden) thought that “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” was a gothic film, Noah, a self-confessed slasher fan, corrected him, and told him that the slasher genre wouldn’t work as a television show. While he said this, Nina’s mother discovered Nina’s body in the pool.
Afterwards, while everyone waited for their turn as they had all been ordered to go to grief counseling, Noah informed Kieran about Brandon James. He is a deformed teenager who had gone on a killing spree twenty years ago after being beaten up by several high school boys. Then, he revealed his face, which was hidden behind a mask, to a high school girl named Daisy whom he had been obsessed with. However, that had ended with James getting shot by cops after he agreed to meet Daisy by the lake dock.
Later, after discovering that her boyfriend, Will Belmont (Connor Weil) hadn’t been telling the truth about where he had been the previous night, Emma invited Audrey to the memorial service that Brooke Maddox (Carlson Young), who was having an affair with their English teacher, to Nina’s memorial service later that night. Meanwhile, Will told Jake to erase several suspicious videos from his desktop computer.
Before leaving for the party, Emma brought in a package addressed to someone named Daisy. After she left, Maggie, who was Daisy, then opened the package, which held an animal heart. She read the card, which talked about how Emma looked like her at that age.
At the party, Audrey and Emma talked to each other, and Riley Marra (Brianne Tju) found herself drawn to Noah. He talked to them about the rules of slasher movies, such as the fact that no one should wander on their own, which Brooke did as she had gone into her garage. There, she bumped into Will who told her off, as she had revealed that Will had slept with Nina before.
This caused Emma to bump into Kieran at the greenhouse, where they shared a kiss after he revealed that he was staying with his real father, Sheriff Clark Hudson (Jason Wiles), as his stepfather and mother had just died.
Noah, after finding himself in the middle of the lake, as he had passed out, found himself getting dragged down by someone while swimming back to the lake. He was then saved by Kieran and was taken home by Audrey, who kissed her girlfriend, Rachel Murray (Sosie Bacon) while unknowingly being watched by the masked figure.
The next day, Emma tried to apologize to Audrey as she had been at the parking lot and ended up getting a phone call from a mysterious caller who threatened to lift all of their masks.
Noah was asked to pass by the station by the sheriff. He later told Riley that everyone in their story has secrets and that everyone is “fair game” to the killer. It was then revealed that Jake had videos of Nina, that Audrey had a picture of James on her wall, and that Noah had a smear of blood on his forehead.
