Selena Gomez To Star In A Mini-Series Based On A Novel Tackling Suicide; A Pulitzer Winner Writes The Adaptation

According to E! News, Gomez will be in the Netflix mini-series adaptation of “13 Reasons Why.” This is a novel catered for young adult readers which was written by Jay Asher.
Published in 2007, the plot of the novel revolves around Hanna Baker who is a high school girl that decided to end her life. One of her classmates, Clay got a box of recorded tapes from Baker. These tapes contain the reasons regarding why she commit suicide. As per her instruction, it must be passed to her other peers and explained how each of them triggered her decision.
In an article from AVClub, the “13 Reason Why” mini-series will be written by Brian Yorkey. He has the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize under his name. The concept behind the 13-episode series adaptation began when Gomez read the book. She proposed the idea to Anonymous Content to have a film version.

Along with her mom, Kristel Laiblin, a producer and Mandy Teefey, they will all co-produce the said mini-series. It was considered first in Universal to be a projected movie before the closed deal with Netflix.
Fans of “The Heart Wants What It Wants” singer have last seen her in a series three years ago. She was in the cast of a Disney series, “Wizards of Waverly Place” which aired from 2007 up to 2012. In the movies, she was the voice actress in “Hotel Transylvania 2” and appeared on “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.”
