Sequel for The Devil Wears Prada in the Works
It is recently revealed that author Lauren Weisberger is working on Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, which is the sequel to her debut novel The Devil Wears Prada. Simon & Schuster will be the publisher of the novel that is set to hit the printer in April 2013.
The sequel will be released ten years after the original novel. In 2003, The Devil Wears Prada got the top spot of the best-seller lists. It spent more than a year on the New York Times bestseller list. A movie starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway was made based on the novel. It grossed more than $300 million across the globe.
The novel was partly based on Weisberger’s own experience as second assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. It told the story of Andrea “Andy” Sachs, an aspiring journalist who had to deal with unreasonable demands of her boss Miranda Priestly.
Revenge Wears Prada takes place eight years after Andy parted ways with Miranda on a bad note. Andy is now the editor of The Plunge, one of the hottest bridal magazines. She now works with Emily, one of her Runway enemies turned best friend. Andy is planning her wedding to Max, a handsome media scion. She is still haunted by her former boss and it will just take some time when their paths cross again.
Since releasing The Devil Wears Prada, Weisberger has written three novels. Revenge Wears Prada is her first novel since then that tackles the cutthroat world of Runway magazine. It has been in her contract as part of a multi-book deal but it was not known if Weisberger will write a sequel until the announcement. Will this new novel spawn another movie? Fans of the novel and movie hope so and they wish that the original cast members will be back to play the roles.
