Current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins will be out of the ring for six to nine months due to a shocking knee injury as reported by WWE.

The 29-year-old wrestling superstar was in a house match with Kane for a WWE event in Dublin, Ireland last Wednesday when he miscalculated a powerbomb move near the turnbuckle. This resulted in a tearing of his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), and meniscus when his right knee folded as he hit the mat. Despite the devastating setback, Rollins still finished and won the match by delivering the same move.

Unfortunately, Rollins was stripped of his belt as he is no longer in a position to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Champion title against his former The Shield stablemate Roman Reigns in the upcoming Survivor Series on Nov. 22.

Due to this recent uncontrolled development, there will be a major rewrite in the WWE universe, as mentioned in Wrestlezone. WWE will now hold a tournament to resolve the void left by Rollins by having a new wrestler put on the championship belt. These alterations will possibly include other WWE title bouts and will make its way through Wrestlemania 32.

It has been insinuated that Rollins would have been pitted against Triple H for Wrestlemania but the plotline will surely not materialise due to the lengthy rehabilitation process needed by the superstar. Furthermore, as WWE’s most celebrated “heel,” Rollins would still have been booked for a title run despite a loss in the Survivor Series.

Rollins took the title belt in Wrestlemania 31 by using his “Money in the Bank” contract during the main event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. Rollins managed to pin Reigns in the newly-turned Triple Threat match.

According to Forbes, fans have long been crying out for an Undertaker vs. Sting showdown for the upcoming Wrestlemania 32. The story arc for the meet-up of these wrestling icons is to be sown in Survivor Series to coincide with the Deadman’s Silver Anniversary. Again, with Rollins in the injured list, a lot of appealing plot twist are now up in the air.
