According to Entertainment Weekly, “Divergent” actress, Shailene Woodley and the “Don Jon” actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt are both tapped to lead Oliver Stone’s new movie “Snowden.” Film was originally scheduled to have its premiere this year around December 25, but unfortunately, the movie’s distributor Open Road Films announced that they decided to move it to next year, May 13.

Based on multiple gossip sites, the reason behind the rescheduling of the film was because of its director, Stone. Rumor has it that the 69-year-old American film director and screenwriter wants to release it later on because the film was not totally furnished and it would not be qualified for an Academy Award.

Coming Soon reported that the story will revolve around the story of Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old computer genius who leaked the secrets of his lonely exile in Russia.

Adding on, IMDB reported that the story of “Snowden” was written by Kieran Fitzgerald and Stone which was based on “The Snowden Files,” written by Luke Harding and Anatoly Kucherena’s “Time of the Octopus.”

Moreover, the movie was able to get Levitt, Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Scott Eastwood, Joey Richardson and Nicholas Cage to be part of Stone’s project.

Reports indicate that Woodley wasn’t supposed to be the one who will play the role of Lindsay Mills because Stone’s first choice was the “Suicide Squad” Harley Quinn actress, Margot Robbie, however, the 25-year-old star had a scheduling conflict.

Since Robbie won’t be able to be in the movie, Stone picked the “Divergent” series star Shailene Woodley instead.

In addition to this, actor Nicholas Cage allegedly agreed to appear in a small role for “Snowden” as a favor for Stone.

“Snowden” film is set to be released on May 13, 2016.
