“We knew this material would attract high end talent. Steven Strait embodies the humor, gravitas and humanity that the character of James Holden possesses. Having him alongside Thomas Jane as our leading men is thrilling. The incomparable Shohreh Aghdashloo is our dream Chrisjen Avasarala,” said Sharon Hall, the president of Alcon TV as published in Variety.
“The Expanse” is being produced by Alcon Television Group for Syfy. Earlier, the project has already enlisted Thomas Jane (“The Punisher”) to lead the series as Detective Miller.
The show, which is also partly a thriller, is set in the future and sets off a series of events when Miller (Jane), along with Holden (Straight), have to find and solve the case of a missing woman. Their search will bring them to different parts of the solar system where they will eventually uncover what is called as “the greatest conspiracy in human history.”
The first two episodes will be directed by Terry McDonough (“Breaking Bad”) with Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby as series writers.
“The Expanse” is based on a New York Times best-selling book series that was written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck using the pen name James S. A. Corey. The two also serve as producers of the series.
