Showtime Takes on the Financial World with New Series ‘Billions’
Showtime has just picked a drama involving hedge funds and the network clearly suggests that they are still not done with mind games because this one is another mind boggling series just like their “Homeland” TV show. And to add to that, Damian Lewis will star in it.
Lewis or as we all know, “Brody” who starred in the first three seasons of “Homeland” is set to star in the network’s new TV series titled “Billions.” Along with Lewis’ casting, Paul Giamatti will also star in the show.
“Billions” will revolve around “politics and power in the world of Wall Street and New York investment firms” as per Variety. Lewis will play the role of Bobby “Axe” Axelroad, a “hedge fund titan” while Giamatti will play the role of Chuck Rhoades, a US attorney.
The show was created by Brian Koppelman and David Levien along with Andrew Ross Sorkin who will be the show’s executive producer. Levien and Koppelman will be the showrunners.
The first season of “Billions” will feature 12 episodes. Production is set to start later this year and it is set to debut in 2016.
“Billions” is definitely a change in the world of TV series nowadays – this is something different, a new concept that we don’t get to see usually. Showtime may just be cooking up another hit TV series and with Lewis on board, it may just be what the network needs to boost up its ratings. Even though the show is still in its early stages, it is a sure thing and has been ordered straight to series. This only means that the network itself has high hopes for this.
