Shrek 5 Release Date, New Characters and What We Know So Far!
Shrek 5, a popular sequel to the movie franchise, will hit the screens soon. With four prequels already out there, Shrek has become a brand icon. Since reports surfaced that the franchise is going to have a revival, fans have been waiting for developments.
Most of the voice characters will return for Shrek 5. Some information leak from actor Eddie Murphy, voice of iconic character Donkey, gives fans further details. The movie comes under the DreamWorks Animation.
But DreamWorks Animation is fully acquired now by NBC Universal. NBC is wasting no time in bringing Dreamwork’s prime franchise to fore again. NBC has also approved two of the studio’s films which include the Shrek sequel and Shadows.
Shrek 5 Gets Go Ahead From NBC Universal
Moreover, Shrek 5 is ready for a release in 2019. Eddie Murphy discloses that the scripting is done. Reports suggest pre-production is currently underway. Murphy told Cinema Blend that the team has put together a good script. However, no details about any new character is out yet.
Who Is Writing The Script?
Recent reports suggest that Austin Powers screenwriter Michael McCullers is joining in as the scriptwriter. Dreamworks Animation legends Walt Dohrn and Mike Mitchell shared in an interview with The Hollywood News that they would love to take the directorship of the coming sequel.
Mike Mitchell spoke about Shrek 5 saying, “They’ve got a pretty good story. It’s being written by Michael McCullers who wrote al of the Austin Powers films. He came up with a really great idea that they’re exploring.”
Both Dohrn and Mitchell did not clearly mention if they are a part of the Shrek project. However, they left fans with an intriguing reply saying, “Who knows?” It looks like both are busy with 2005 adventure comedy Sky High and may be the commitment to this movie would keep them away from Shrek sequel.
