Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Recap: The Weeping Lady

"Sleepy Hollow" Season 2 Episode 5 “The Weeping Lady” aired on Monday, October 20, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on FOX. Read on for the full recap of this episode.

Ichabod befriends Caroline, a woman with an obsession for all things colonial. The episode opens up with Caroline giving Ichabod handmade goods and eventually admitting to Ichabod that she is rather “attracted” to the Colonial man, who rebuffs her advances by telling her that he’s married, to which Abbie’s impeccable timing, by showing up made things a tad more awkward for Caroline who mistakes Mills for Mrs. Crane.

Meanwhile, Katrina reaches out to Ichabod with a letter carried by a bird. Abraham grows suspicious and believes she had used her magic and enlists the help of Henry in dealing with the problem.

Ichabod and Mills pay Caroline a visit, with Ichabod trying to clear the confusion earlier with Caroline, becoming friends again. As Ichabod and Abbie leave Caroline, she finds a mysterious weeping woman in her house. The mysterious figure suddenly attacks Caroline.

The next day, Ichabod is distraught to find his newly found friend dead. Ichabod and Abbie investigate the cause of death that leads them into a high school where they learn of the creature called "The Weeping Lady." Ichabod and Abbie head out to Sleepy Hollow’s library to try and figure out more info on this so-called Weeping Lady. Ichabod receives a letter from a bird, while Abbie has a brief encounter with Hawley, who offers his services to compensate for his departure last episode. The Weeping Lady attacks Abbie in the Sleepy Hollow library, almost drowning her, but she is saved by Ichabod and Hawley who gave her CPR.

Back in the Archives, Abbie presents Ichabod a clue, to which Ichabod recognizes. A flashback ensues, and it is revealed that the haunted spirit is Mary Wells, a woman from Ichabod’s past and who he had been promised to as a child. Ichabod tells Abbie that he had broken off the engagement to Mary because of her jealousy and thought that she had returned to England after receiving a letter. Oh boy, Ichabod is really a heartbreaker, huh? Abbie believes that Mary is targeting people connected to him. Ichabod realizes that the letter he had earlier was missing and concludes that if Mary has the letter, Katrina may be in peril. Ichabod and Abbie go to Hawley to borrow a weapon that might stop the Weeping Lady.

That night, Ichabod and Abbie set out to the Rider’s lair, only to find the horseman storming off. The duo checks out the cabin only to find a wet floor and Ichabod’s letter. With her encounter with the spirit earlier, Abbie tells Ichabod that she knows where Katrina might be. Katrina survives her ordeal and is reunited with Ichabod. Together, Abbie and Katrina are able to release Mary's soul. Katrina confesses to Ichabod the details of Mary's accidental death, but he is angered by her deception. Out of nowhere, the headless rider appears, ready to chop off Ichabod’s head clean, only to be stopped by Katrina. Katrina tells Abraham that it wasn’t Ichabod who took her away but a spirit. She tells him that she is now ready to go home with him, and they storm off.

Back at Hawley’s place, Jenny thanks Hawley in behalf of her sister. It is, however, revealed that Hawley and Jenny had a prior “physical relationship.”

At Caroline’s funeral, Ichabod tells Abbie his grief and how can he trust his wife who has kept so many secrets from him — being a witch, Washington’s spy, pregnant with Jeremy and now Mary’s death.

At Katrina’s end, however, we see a softer side to the Headless Rider. Katrina is disappointed with how things had gone, how the turn of events led to Ichabod mistrusting her. Abraham tells her that he did not have any hand of the matter and tells her that he is unhappy when he sees her unhappy. Katrina thanks Abraham.

Moloch scolds Jeremy for trying to kill Katrina, telling him that it is not he who must make plans, that he is a soldier, and soldiers don’t plan. It is revealed that Katrina has a bigger role calling her a “hellfire shard” and a “chosen vessel.” Hmmm, very interesting. The episode ends with Jeremy weeping on the ground.
