Dan Brown’s ‘Inferno’ Update: Tom Hanks to Reprise Role for Sony Pictures
Talented Hollywood actor Tom Hanks is set to reprise his role as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon for the third time. It is for the latest adaptation of “Inferno,” another novel written by Dan Brown. Read on to learn more about this story.
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures and Imagine Entertainment has finalized their casting deal with the actor. Aside from Hanks, director Ron Howard was also tapped to helm the project, which will start filming on location of Italy in April. Howard will co-produce with Brian Grazer from a screenplay from David Koepp.
Howard a film director, producer and actor, came to prominence for his role as Opie Taylor in the sitcom The Andy Griffith Show that lasted eight years, and later the teenaged Richie Cunningham in the sitcom Happy Days for six years. He appeared in the films The Music Man in 1962, American Graffiti in 1973, and The Shootist in 1976. His directorial debut was for the 1977 comedy Grand Theft Auto. His other works as a director include Cocoon, Apollo 13, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and A Beautiful Mind, which earned Howard the Academy Award for Best Director. Howard conceived the idea for the Fox/Netflix series Arrested Development, on which he also serves as producer and narrator, and plays a semi-fictionalized version of himself.
Inferno is the fourth book of author Dan Brown’s novel series which follows Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code and The Lost Symbol. It was number one on the New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover fiction and Combined Print & E-book fiction for the first eleven weeks of its release, and also remained on the list of E-book fiction for the first seventeen weeks of its release.
Inferno follows Harvard University professor Robert Langdon who wakes up in a hospital with a head wound and no memory of the last few days. His last memory is walking on the Harvard campus, but he quickly realizes that he is now in Florence, where he wakes up in a Hospital attended by a doctor named Sienna Brooks. Langdon must now work with Brooks to recover his memories and stop a madman who is obsessed with Dante’s Inferno, bent on releasing a virus that can wipe out an entire population.
