‘Star Wars Rebels’ and ‘Star Wars: Spark of Rebellion’ Get Premiere Dates

Those who are eagerly awaiting for the next installment in the epic “Star Wars” saga need not wait long, as the premiere date for the highly anticipated series, “Star Wars Rebels,” has been  set. It has also been announced that a one-hour animated movie will be released to usher in the new show. Read on to learn more about this story.

According to StarWars.com, the highly anticipated series will be ushered in by a one-hour animated movie entitled “Star Wars: Spark of Rebellion,” which will be available to viewers on multiple platforms. It will be available online on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, on Disney Channel SVOD and to verified users on WATCHDisneyXD.com and the WATCHDisneyXD application. Its television premiere will be aired at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, on Disney Channels throughout the world.

The series itself, “Star Wars Rebels,” will start airing at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, on DisneyXD.

“Star Wars Rebels” is set in between the events of “Star Wars Episode III” and “Star Wars Episode IV,” around five years prior to “Episode IV.”  It features a darker “Star Wars” universe, as the Empire starts to rise in power and to take control of the planets in its reach. It is a time of darkness, as the Galactic Republic and the Jedi are gone.

However, a small group of rebels — maverick Jedi knight Kanan (Freddie Prinze, Jr.), street smart Ezra (Taylor Gray), pilot Hera (Vanessa Marshall),  powerful Zeb (Steve Blum),  warrior girl Sabine (Tiya Sircar) and an old astromech droid called Chopper — unite and band together as they alone are the only ones brave enough to stand up against the tyrannical rule of the Empire. The group, aboard their ship, Ghost, take on the Empire one step at a time, ultimately becoming the ones who start the rebellion.
