‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ Update: Diego Luna Cast As ‘Lead Villain’ In Spinoff Movie
“Elysium” actor Diego Luna has just been tapped to play the lead villain in “Star Wars: Rogue One.” The actor was said to be “in talks” to play one of the lead characters alongside Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed and Ben Mendelsohn.
In April, director Gareth Edwards said that the next movie in the “Star Wars” world will be set between Episode III and Episode IV. The film would reportedly focus on rebellious group fighters, who were on a mission to steal the plans of Death Star.
According the Variety Magazine, Mexican actor Diego Luna will play alongside Jones as one of the rebel soldiers. Meanwhile, actor Ben Mendelsohn, who was last seen “The Dark Knight Rises” will be the film’s main antagonist. The website also predicted that the cast will make up a large ensemble similar to “The Dirty Dozen” and “Saving Private Ryan.”
Lucasfilms and Disney have yet to confirm the official casting for “Rogue One,” however, fans of Diego Luna could not help but wish that the news is in fact true. It’s also interesting to note that Luna has directed several films in 2014 back in Mexico, including the biopic, “Cesar Chavez.” He has also recently starred, produced and directed “Mr. Pig.” It will be exciting to know what Luna could bring to the table.
As previously reported the upcoming “Star Wars” spin off movies could be taken as standalone films, which means that they could have indirect connections to the characters and events in the “Star Wars” universe.
