State of Affairs Season 1 Recap: Cry Havoc
“State of Affairs” Season 1 Episode 9 “Cry Havoc” opened with the college student, whom they think was a terrorist, Stacy Dover.
After what seemed like a one-night stand, we saw her getting dressed while the guy sleeps. She searched for his phone, but the guy woke up. She said that she’s just going to leave her number. After that, she went back to her sorority house. She was dressed up for class, but instead of going straight to campus, she hailed a cab and got out at a house. When she walked towards the door, clutching her horse-symbol necklace, she then surprisingly pulled out a detonation trigger. She then said “Ar Rissalah is here” and then boom! There goes our very first suicide bomber.
Earlier that day, Charleston has been spending so much time at the office waiting for news from their missions. The real reason that she’s been uptight and sleeping in the office was that she’s waiting to hear from Nick. Unfortunately, they haven’t heard from Nick yet.
Lucas brought in the news that the FBI disapproves of bringing Stacy Dover in because they lack evidence. Charleston was frustrated, so their next step would be to get all the information they need on Stacy. During the briefing, David invited an FBI special agent to sit in. Charleston briefed the president. Payton asked Charlie and Agent Markey to work together to get evidence so they could bring in Stacy. Before Charleston could go, Payton told her that the report on the Kabul attack will be coming out in a week. It was indeed bad news because it will be revealed that the gun that killed Aaron was a CIA weapon, and Charleston assured her that Bellerophon is clean. Payton asked if she could trust Charleston’s team.
Charleston went to Navarro. She told her that she stopped getting text messages. It was after Payton knew about her connection with Fatah and even showed her the photo of Nick and Fatah. Navarro then decided to polygraph the whole Bellerophon team. After that, he went to a safe house with a security guy named Brian. He made a remark about taking Navarro out and meeting college girls. They went into a safe house, just like the house that Stacy went to during the first part of this episode. It also turned out that it was Brian whom Stacy slept with the night before.
Back to Mission Stacy, they weren’t able to extract the information that they need. It was until Charleston had a light bulb moment. She suggested that they look at regular sites and social media, and she was right. They found out that Stacy and James Wilcox have received emails from Redwood Books, and its activation codes can be seen in hidden Instagram messages. This meant that they can now bring in Stacy Dover.
Meanwhile, the polygraph made the whole team tensed, especially Lucas. After that, Navarro watched the videos of the polygraphs. He told Charleston that was Maureen, but she didn’t buy it. It was because Maureen’s her best friend, and Charleston read the results and found Kurt’s results to be suspicious because they were perfect. The reason why he was tapping his shoe the whole time during the polygraph test was to keep his heart rate steady. Kurt finally came clean and told her that he texted her about the photo. Charleston would tell the truth, but he assured her that he’s always on her side. She stopped texting when she finally came clean to Payton.
Meanwhile, Senator Kyle Green went to Bob Burke’s house to talk to him why the convoy report was being released early. Clearly, she disapproved of this and she wanted more time. She could dig up more dirt, but Burke only told her that he’ll be the one to handle it now.
Nick was on a plane and has gained the trust of Al Moosari and has access now to Fatah. Fatah revealed that Sheikh Hakam was promoting wars that they would lose to because he’s lost his way. He’s been following Charleston’s directive all along. It means that they can completely trust Fatah. Surprisingly, Fatah killed Moosari.
Navarro was in the safe house with Senator Green to be interviewed regarding the convoy report. Navarro questioned her about the photo, but Green just left. He suggested that he gets a warrant before he starts poking around. And yes, it was the same house that Stacy blew up and Green died while Navarro was badly injured. Charleston was a minute late. When they decoded the latest Instagram activation code that says Hit Director Navarro, it was too late.
Finally, Nick made contact with Charleston. He said that he has all the information on the listserve. Payton and Marshall were in the office where Marshall was so mad because he thinks Ar Rissalah is winning. Charleston’s next move is to start looking for the Ar Rissalah members on the listserve.
Then we saw Fatah giving Nick a photo of Sheikh Hakam and gave up a meeting location.
