Sword Art Online Season 1 Recap: Episodes 1 to 3
“Sword Art Online” (SAO) is an animated series based on the novel of the same name, written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Abec.
The animated series followed the story of the online game called Sword Art Online (SAO) and the story started on the main event of the Role-playing Game or RPG. However, the main focus of this series followed the story of Kirito, a Beater (word combination of beat and tester).
Each online gamer wore a NerveGear in order to join the game event. Everything looked cool, as most players felt that they were a real fighter. But suddenly, something went wrong in the server, making them hard to get back to the reality.
Episode 1: "The World of Swords"
Kirito and Klein met on this episode. Kirito taught Klein the basic steps of this game. When Klein was about to log out, he found out the logging out button was not there.
When everyone panicked, the creator, Akihiko Kayaba, revealed the dark secret of his game. Players should complete all the floors — a total of 100 floors. If they die in the game, they die as well in real life, and the Nerve Gear will explode. Moreover, if someone unplugs the Nerve Gear of the player, the player will also die. The player has no choice but to finish the game..
Episode 2: "Beater"
One month since game has started, almost 2,000 players have already died, and the first floor needed to be cleared. Kirito attended a meeting organized by fellow beta-tester Diabel. He called a meeting to plan on killing the Illfang, the Kobold Lord and the computer-controlled opponent of the first floor.
Parties were formed, but Kirito teamed up with a mysterious girl named Asuna, who was a beginner but has a good fighting skill. When Diabel's raid group arrived at the boss' room and engaged in a battle with Illfang and his minions, llfang's health becomes low. Diabel decided to take the opportunity to attack the boss, but things went wrong when Illfang striked down first. Diabel was hit. He begged Kirito to defeat the boss and save the players. After slaying the boss, Kirito was accused of being a "beater" and was blamed on Diabel's death.
Episode 3: "The Red-Nosed Reindeer"
After saving the Moonlit Black Cats guild from a monster attack, the leader of the guild, Keita, thanked Kirito and asked him to join their guild. Kirito accepted the invitation but did not disclose that his level is twice the average level of the guild. Kirito bonded with his new friends, especially with Sachi. She opened up to Kirito and revealed that she was afraid to die. After confiding, Kirito assured her that he will protect her and promised that one day, they will be free.
But on June 12, 2023, while Keita went out to buy a house for the guild, the other Black Cats members, alongside Kirito, decided to earn some money by going to the upper floor dungeons.
However, they were trapped in a room with higher-level monsters. Kirito was unable to save the members and witnessed the Black Cats killed, including Sachi. When Keita learned about his guild's demise and that Kirito has leveled up, he committed suicide. Krito was so guitly, so he decided to fight the boss in order to get a material that will revive a player. But sadly, he can only use the material during 10 seconds after the death of the player. At the end of this episode, Kirito received a final message from Sachi.
