The Mindy Project” revealed that  two new characters are set to join the third season of the show and what’s surprising here is one of them is actually her first time to act on screen.  We’ve got an Emmy award nominee and a brilliant showrunner with two hit TV shows as of the moment. Read on for more details.

According to TV Line, “Scandal” showrunner Shonda Rhimes will make a special appearance on the show alongside Alison Tolman of “Fargo.”

The news broke when Rhimes tweeted, “Shh. Nobody tell @mindykaling that I can neither act nor appear lifelike on camera. NO ONE STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING! #dreamsDOcometrue,” she said. It seems like Rhimes really want to act and we are so excited to see this!

And Kaling responded, “Welcome to the world of #TheMindyProject @shondarhimes! We are so excited to have you,” she said.

Rhimes’ role hasn’t been revealed yet while Tolman’s role is Peter Prentice’s (Adam Pally) love interest. Tolman will appear in two episodes as Abby Berman. However, we don’t think that Rhimes will be a series regular especially we know that she has a lot of responsibilities right now!

This is the first acting gig for Rhimes who is currently taking a break from running hit TV shows (“Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy”). As for Tolman, after receiving her own Emmy nomination for her role in “Fargo.”

We wonder what role Rhimes is going to play! What do you think? What’s your reaction to this news? Let us know by posting your comments below!

“The Mindy Project” Season 3 returns on September 16, 2014 on Fox.
