During the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con, IGN Live managed to sit down with actor Stephen Amell, who revealed several interesting details regarding his iteration of the fan favorite character- the hockey wielding vigilante Casey Jones.
Amell revealed that his version of Casey Jones will be very different from the Casey Jones that has been seen in various “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” formats – comic books, animated television shows, television shows, and films. According to the “Arrow” star, the reason why his version will be different is because his Casey will be “at a very different time in his development”.
The star went on to say that Casey will still be living in New York, and will still love playing hockey, but will have a job. After seeing all the horrible crimes committed on the streets every day, Casey tries to bring justice through the law, but after being laughed at for doing so, he “decides to take matters into his own hands”.
However, with regards to his fighting style, Moviepilot reports that Amell has stated during the Wizard World Philadelphia Comic-Con that Casey’s fighting style is simpler compared to the fighting style he uses on the “Arrow,” as Casey fights using a baseball bat and hockey stick. He also mentioned during the Wizard Con that for Casey, this movie will serve as his origin story.
Casey Jones’ origin story has been changed many different times over the course of the character’s history in comics and on the small and big screens.
In one iteration, Casey became a vigilante after his family was beaten up in front of him. In the latest iteration of the character in the IDW version of “TMNT”, Casey Jones was a not so bright student and hockey player, who encountered the turtles after Raphael rescued him from getting beat up by his drunken father. He then met April O’Neil, after hiring her as an academic tutor in exchange for giving April self-defense lessons.
