According to Comicbook.com, film producer Andrew Form told Collider that the sequel to Michael Bay’s sci-fi action comedy will begin shooting this year.

“We’re in prep right now.  We start shooting in New York in April,” said Form. The sequel will possibly include dim-witted thugs, Bebop and Rocksteady who were not included in the first pic. “We designed and we did lots of work on all of them and then only so many fit in the box and luckily we have another chance to make another one of these movies and some of those characters that got cut out of the first one can make it into the second one.” Form told Collider, as posted by Comic Book.com.

The 2014 science fiction action comedy based on the franchise of the same name serves as a reboot of the franchises’ film series. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” is directed by Jonathan Liebesman, produced by the film maker Michael Bay, and stars Megan Fox, Johnny Knoxville, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, Tony Shalhoub, William Fichtner and Will Arnett.

In “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” New York has become home to crime and the corrupt as Shredder, portrayed by William Fichtner, and his evil ninja clan, the Foot Clan, has gained control of the city, from the police to the politicians and almost everything. As bleak as things may seem, Shredder’s plans are thwarted by four anthropomorphic turtles — brothers Leonardo, Raphael, Michael Angelo and Donatello — trained in the ancient arts of ninjutsu by their mentor and father figure, the ratlike, Splinter. April O’Neil, a news reporter, played by the beautiful Megan Fox, soon discovers the brothers’ identities and must now work with the turtles in order to save the city and foil Shredder’s diabolical plan.

Although the film received generally negative reviews, the pic proved to be a box-office success, grossing over $477 million worldwide becoming Nickelodeon Movies’ highest grossing film and insuring a green light for a sequel which is set for a June 3, 2016 release date.
