Now that the final winners have all been announced at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes and SAG Awards, things are heating up for the biggest night in the film industry -the 87th Academy Awards. We at Movie News Guide’s (MNG) have compiled some facts the fans should know about the Oscars.

According to Hello Magazine, Academy Awards ceremony are presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). This year’s Oscars ceremony will take place on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015 at the Dolby Theatre, in Hollywood, Los Angeles.


During the ceremony, the award-giving organization will present Academy Awards in 24 categories. The ceremony is televised in the United States by ABC. The show will be produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan and directed by Hamish Hamilton. Actor Neil Patrick Harris is scheduled to host the star-studded night for the first time

On Feb. 7, 2015, in a ceremony at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the Academy Awards for Technical Achievement were presented by hosts Margot Robbie and Miles Teller.

Harris has said he will follow in the footprints of Ellen DeGeneres while hosting the show and will try to deliver some epic moment as she did. DeGeneres delivered most retweeted selfie. This was also was the most-tweeted-about entertainment moment in the U.S. with 254,644 tweets per minute in that year.

It was accompanied by a selfie taken by Bradley Cooper and  has included Hollywood A-listers at the Academy Awards: Meryl Streep, DeGeneres, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and Lupita N’yong’o.

The selfie garnered 3.3 million retweets and 2 million favorites, and it was retweeted in 151 different countries.

Hollywood’s luminaries will walk the 500 foot long red carpet at the 87th Academy Awards dressed in best and boldest manner.

All the nominees will be presented with the “Everybody Wins at the Oscars Nominee Gift Bag,” which is worth over £53,000. Eddie Redmayne, Benedict Cumberbatch, Patricia Arquette and Emma Stone will make history if they win will take home their first Oscar statuette this year.


Meryl Streep is confirmed to attend the gala. She has received her 19th Oscar nomination this year for her performance in “Into The Woods.”
