The Big Bang Theory Recap: The Troll Manifestation [WATCH VIDEO]
“The Big Bang Theory” Season 8 Episode 14 “The Troll Manifestation” aired on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. on CBS. Leonard and Sheldon work together on a scientific breakthrough, which an internet troll disses, while Penny, Bernadette, and Amy have their ladies night across the hall. Find out what happened in the recap below.
During the dinner with his girlfriend Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Leonard (Johnny Galecki) suddenly had a burst of idea about a theory that he’s been working on with Sheldon (Jim Parsons). He rushes back to his apartment to confirm this. Sheldon actually believes his idea is possible, so they immediately get to work to prove it.
Sheldon begins to write a paper about it, crediting Leonard for the idea. They uploaded the piece online for their peers to view. A few moments later, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Howard (Simon Helberg) come by their apartment to tell them that their paper has been referenced in the Quantum Diaries, a huge blog for physics geek. The boys are both elated to be getting positive reviews for their breakthrough.
Until an internet troll starts messing things up, debunking their ideas and their capacity as scientists. General Relativity, the commenter, is not impressed. This resulted in a couple of exchanges with Sheldon online, as he defends his paper from the online bully.
However, Sheldon gets a surprise when General Relativity starts calling him up on Skype. It was after threatening the bully that they should meet in the real world instead of exchanging heated words on the internet. Unprepared, Sheldon shuts down his computer, but his friends tell him that he should not back down from a troll. They took a chance and shared their work online, so why would Sheldon allow one jerk mess him up? Did this troll even accomplish anything?
As the boys had something going on, Penny and the girls hold their movie night at her place. Amy (Mayim Bialik) mentions that she would like to watch the Ape movie Penny did a few years back, but Penny says she doesn’t know if the film ever made it out. Luckily, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) finds “Serial Ape-ist 2: Monkey See, Monkey Kill” as she’s perusing the movie library. They watch as Penny dies of embarrassment.
While Amy and Bernadette enjoy the movie, Penny starts searching old videos on her iPad and comes across one with Bernadette from 1999. She’s in a beauty pageant and she looks like a talking cupcake with her poufy pink gown. She’s trying to impress the judges, telling them why she really, really, really wants to be Miss California Quiznos (to the tune of a Spice Girls song, since it’s the 90’s!). Bernadette is totally humiliated, so she turns the table on Amy.
Amy, apparently, writes fan fiction for “Little House on the Prairie” and Penny quickly Googles this up and finds the story. Amy’s version involves Amelie, a pioneer, who is in love with Cooper, a time-travelling physicist. They girls read the material and snicker at how corny this is. Yet, it was oddly engrossing. At one point, Leonard enters Penny’s apartment and the girls shout at him to get out.
Meanwhile, the boys decide to call back the internet troll. But when they see who’s at the other end of the Skype call, they were so surprised. General Relativity is the famous Stephen Hawking, Sheldon’s hero, who actually tells them that he did like the paper Sheldon and Leonard worked on. Only, he wants some excitement in his life as it gets pretty boring sitting in a chair for four decades. Sheldon and Leonard are so pleased with themselves, learning that Stephen Hawking actually finds their paper interesting.
That night, Penny reads Amy’s story to Leonard before going to bed, and comes to a part where Amelia and Cooper are discussing underwear. What’s supposed to be an erotic scene in the book (in Amy’s mind), sounded silly to Leonard and Penny. They couldn’t finish the fan fiction.
