The Flash Season 1 Recap: The Sound and the Fury

As more and more episodes of “The Flash” Season 1 air, we get to learn more about Wells. In episode 11 “The Sound and the Fury” we were introduced to a new villain The Pied Piper. Read on to learn more about it.

Pied Piper is Hartley Rathaway. He is a scientist, but he was shunned away out of his family’s company. That’s when he met Wells, who became his mentor. Cisco and Caitlin don’t like him, but Wells sees his brilliance. It is also the reason why he took him on board. Things changed between them when Hartley warned Wells of the possible particle accelerator combustion. Wells disregarded this because that’s his step to meet Barry Allen and by that he did and he fired Hartley. But before firing him, Hartley suffered an explosion that caused chronic pain in his ears.

Hartley was devastated but after a year, he managed to find Wells. They need to scare him by breaking all of his windows and Wells knows that it was him. Barry went to Wells’ house to investigate and they found Hartley. It was of course because he did that intentionally. He really wanted to be taken in and he was taken in the S.T.A.R Labs.

Meanwhile, Iris finally got a job at the Central City newspaper. Thanks to her blog but she’s there to write about some other stuff other than Flash stuff. However, the newspaper actually wants her to write about Flash but she stood her ground and continued to work on other stories.

Hartley can speak three different languages. He showed that while detained at the S.T.A.R Labs when he talked to Cisco, Caitlin and Wells in different languages. He also accused Wells of withholding a huge secret. Not to mention that we saw Wells in his house running around like Flash, could he be the reverse Flash? Anyway, Wells arranged a press conference to come clean in public but he only did this to distract Hartley. He’s a good manipulator, this one. And, of course, Barry was on his side.

Of course, a new villain in town wouldn’t be complete without a showdown. Hartley managed to escape. He even stole some information about the Flash. He then lured him at a bridge with a plan to use his sonic vibrations to paralyze him. Wells know about this plan of course, and he saved Flash. Once again, Hartley is locked up.
