As prisoners captured in the last episode (“SOS“), Captain Chandler (Eric Dane) and Tex (John Pyper-Ferguson) were brought to Ruskov (Ravil Isyanov), the Russian admiral they had an encounter with in “Dead Reckoning.” Ruskov told them that they could be freed in exchange for Dr. Scott. But Chandler never said any word about it, nor did he get swayed by Ruskov. The American captives were then sent to a small jail cell inside the Russian’s ship, but not after Chandler told Dr. Tophet’s wife and daughter, who were with Ruskov, that Dr. Tophet (Sam Spruell) was doing okay on their ship.
Back at USS Nathan James, XO Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) has assumed that the Russians have their captain and that they will surely be making a trade for Dr. Scott. So he came up with a plan of attack and extraction along with his team.
At the ship’s lab, Dr. Scott was showing the young Jaimacan girl they rescued in the previous episode how the virus worked. Later, Dr. Scott finally had a breakthrough — she created the vaccine! It was just in time too because Ruskov already made his demands from XO Slattery, and Dr. Scott was brave enough to volunteer herself to bring the sample vaccines to Ruskov. The navy men warned her though, saying that with Ruskov’s mentality, she could become his slave for life. But Dr. Scott said that the Russians will keep chasing after them anyway, so her surrendering to them might put a stop to this once and for all. As the crew prepared for their latest mission, they also gave Dr. Scott her own gun.
So then, Dr. Scott surrendered and got aboard the Russian ship. She met Ruskov in person. She told him, however, that she will not start talking nor working until she sees Chandler in person. When this did happen, the first thing Dr. Scott did was kiss Chandler passionately, much to the surprise of everyone, including Tex, who has a crush on the doctor. Later, Chandler pulled the piece of paper from his mouth. That was what the kiss was for, much to Tex’s relief. They now have a rendezvous point with his team!
The Russians brought Dr. Scott to their lab inside the ship where she met Neal, another scientist. She noticed that he was in a well-protected space, and she deduced why. He’s infected with the virus.
Dr. Scott: “It was you, you added the human gene! You weaponized the virus!”
Neal: “No, I didn’t weaponize it. I was really close to a major breakthrough. I added my gene to the virus and injected it back into my bloodstream and it worked. I am completely immune. I just didn’t know that I made myself a carrier.”
Dr. Scott: “You’re patient zero.”
Neal: “No, I didn’t start it. I was trying to find a solution here. I’m trying to fix it.”
Dr. Scott told him that the virus got so much worse, and he killed 4 billion people because of it. But she also said that she would be able to fix it with the vaccine. But he doesn’t believe her. Because this was his work from the start, he believed Dr. Scott’s vaccine would fail.
Back at the Russian ship, Dr. Scott showed Ruskov that the vaccine does work. He ordered one of his men to become the test subject, and with a gun to their heads, Dr. Scott injected the vaccine to him, and then Ruskov ordered him to get inside the protected area with Neal. Was he going to survive it? The test will take a while.
Ruskov went to see Chandler in his jail cell and told him, “The vaccine Dr. Scott developed is now the single greatest commodity in the world.” Would Chandler become allies with him, seeing that he will soon become the most powerful force in the world? As a Navy and a principled man, Chandler, of course, refused.
Later, Chandler and Tex found a way to kill the Russian guard watching over them and immediately headed to the rendezvous point at one of the ship’s hull. Within minutes, the calvary arrived, and they first extracted Dr. Tophet’s family. Getting to Dr. Scott was a bit tougher, though, but they did manage to pull her out from a sticky situation too. But why, with all the action that has already done down, hasn’t Ruskov set off any alarm yet? Chandler got suspicious, so he asked his men to change their route for reaching the extraction point. They were surely going to get ambushed if they didn’t.
Finally, the team escaped the Russian ship, with Tophet’s family and Dr. Scott with them. They managed to do a lot of damage on the Russian ship as well that they were under a state of panic. But Neal, the virus carrier, also happened to escape amidst all the chaos.
While Dr. Tophet was reunited with his family, this mission came with one casualty — a young Navy named Cossetti, who died a hero for helping out Dr. Tophet’s family, escaped.
