The Watch is Rated-R
Summer movie season is nearing its end and one of the movies that people are looking forward is The Watch, which was called Neighborhood Watch until the Trayvon Martin incident occurred. It stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and Jonah Hill.
The Watch has a suburban setting and features R-rated raunchy comedy. Stiller plays a high-strung, control freak Costco manager Evan, who is married to a more successful wife Abby (Rosemarie DeWitt). Abby wants to get pregnant.
Joe Nunez is the shoplifting doper, night security guard at Costco. He is murdered at work and Evan starts a neighborhood watch to catch the killer. Sgt. Bressman (Will Forte) and his partner Chucho (Mel Rodriguez) don’t welcome the vigilantes.
Evan’s neighborhood watch is composed of the sports fanatic Bob (Vince Vaughn) and slacker gun-lover Franklin (Jonah Hill). The latter talks like a gangster and lives with his mother (Patricia French). Bob tries his best to keep his adolescent daughter Chelsea (Erin Moriarty) from losing her virginity. He also curses a lot. The last member of the Watch is Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade).
Both Abby and Bob’s wife are away while all the action takes place in The Watch. This gives the guys time to churn out penis references, product placements, and several funny moments.
Billy Crudup plays the creepy man across the street. The Watch also has an orgy, which is attended by Andy Samberg, the movie’s director Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone. R. Lee Ermey is also in the movie as the shotgun-toting badass, similar to Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino character.
The Watch is written by Jared Stern, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. This might be the reason why even with the violence, profanity, lewd language, nudity, and drug use, the movie is horribly stupid. Some critics already dismiss this movie as something to avoid on the big screen.
