Top 10 Movie Sidekicks for the Past Five Years [WATCH VIDEOS]
Famous movie protagonists often share the spotlight with their sidekicks. Most of the time, they are equally awesome as our favorite movie heroes. To honor the great sidekicks in the past five years, here’s a list:
- Lucius Fox (“The Dark Knight Rises,” 2012)
Lucius Fox, played by Morgan Freeman, has a major part in Bruce Wayne’s campaign against crime in Gotham City by supplying and financing Batman’s gadgets and weapons.
- Mr. Spock (“Star Trek into Darkness,” 2013)
Spock, a half-human, half-Vulcan, acts as sidekick to Captain Kirk. He is one of the most logical characters in “Star Trek,” and he contributed a twist to the 2013 movie.
- Uggie (“The Artist,” 2011)
Uggie, as Jack Russell Terrier, acts as a sidekick to George Valentin in the 2011 movie “The Artist.” The most memorable part of the movie is when Uggie copies George’s every action while he and his wife are having breakfast.
- War Machine (“Iron Man 2,” 2010)
James Rupert Rhodes is Tony Stark’s friend and a US Air Force officer. He skillfully piloted the War Machine who fought with Iron Man to defeat the drones and Vanko.
- Donkey (“Shrek Forever After,” 2010) (2010)
Though Donkey is loud, talkative and most of the times annoying, he is one of the best characters in the franchise. His optimism makes him Shrek’s best buddy.
- Buzz Lightyear (“Toy Story 3,” 2010)
The Buzz and Woody tandem made “Toy Story” awesome. The most promising Buzz moment is when he turned into a Spanish-speaking toy and had his eyes on Jessie.
- Hit-Girl (“Kick-Ass,” 2010)
Hit-Girl was shown as Kick-Ass’ sidekick in the first installment of the movie. She is an ultra-cool vigilante who worked with her father (Big Daddy) to fight crimes. Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass worked together and became a team after Big Daddy was burned when he broke into Frank D’Amico’s warehouse.
- Tonto (“The Lone Ranger,” 2013)
Alongside “The Lone Ranger,” Tonto has proved that sidekicks can sometimes steal the show as he narrates his quest in bringing justice to the Old West.
- Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” 2010)
The very smart Hermione and the often clumsy Ron Weasley teamed up with Harry Potter to defeat Voldemort. The two were the best sidekicks/friends the-boy-who-lived has ever had.
- Dr. John Watson (“Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” 2011)
Watson acts as Sherlock Holmes’ confidante and assistant in “A Game of Shadows.” “Watson also serves the important function of catalyst for Holmes’ mental processes,” noted William Louis DeAndrea, a famous mystery writer. Now how cool is that for a sidekick?
The past five years has offered awesome movie sidekicks, so always be on the watch for the ones to be featured in the coming years.
