Undateable Recap: Candace’s Boyfriend Walks Into A Bar
“Undateable” Season 2 Episode 2 “Candace’s Boyfriend Walks into a Bar” aired on Tuesday, Mar. 24, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on NBC. Candace’s (Bridgit Mendler) boyfriend is not at all a stand-up guy and Justin (Brent Morin) thinks they all should do something about this. Read on for the recap.
In Candace’s few weeks working at Justin’s bar, she has come to learn about each of the gang’s quirks. She enumerates each one of these, but fails to properly address Brett (David Flynn). She mentions that she’s got a bad memory, which is why her boyfriend calls her “Dum-dum.” Amazing guy, huh? Also, he’s coming over so the guys are going to get to meet him. Great!
Danny (Chris D’Elia) has a new thing this week. As he’s hung-up on watching “The Wonder Years” on DVD, he gets hooked into doing the narrations about what everyone is doing. You know, as it is in the show. Justin hates this, so Danny does it even more just to mock his roommate.
Meanwhile, a young guy walks into the bar and makes a pass at Leslie (Bianca Kajlich). Candace introduces him as Trent, a DJ, the boyfriend she’s talking about. But before she could introduce everyone to him, Trent leaves the bar. Everyone has one thing in their mind: Trent is a tool! Justin thinks she can do better. But how can they tell Candace?
Danny advises against talking to the new girl. On the other hand, Justin thinks she’s his responsibility now. He knows she didn’t have the greatest childhood and he feels that Candace can look up to him as a father figure. Justin imagines he’s going to be a great Dad. Danny’s narration, however, says otherwise. He’s really pissing Justin off with the voice-overs!
Anyway, the gang rounds up Candace and initiates an intervention. They tell her that Trent is bad news, but she takes this the wrong way. Why are they sticking their noses in her business when she doesn’t judge her friends lives? She leaves the bar mad.
Later, she drops by Justin and Danny’s house to talk to the latter. Because Danny’s the only one who didn’t try to talk her into breaking up with Trent. She actually thinks she can count on him like a father for her problems with her boyfriend.
See, Candace is aware Trent’s not perfect. Is she doing the right thing sticking it out with him? Danny could only tell her that she’s a big girl who can make her own decisions and Justin thinks this is a horrible move. He had the opportunity to properly give Candace advice and he didn’t do it. The two got into an argument and even had a “voice-over battle.”
Because Danny told her she’s a big girl, Candace decides to let Trent move in with her. Bad decision! Danny realizes his friend was right. He threw away the opportunity to talk some sense into the young girl. So, together with Justin, they visit Candace at her place.
While there, Danny initiated the talk since Candace trusts him more. But he couldn’t say the right words, so Justin takes over. Carefully, he tells Candace that they are worried about her and this Trent boy. But somehow, the conversation segues to “Magic Mike.”
Anyway, Candace becomes defensive. It was when she senses Danny wants her to break up with Trent, too. But he didn’t want to miss telling her the truth this time. And the truth is, Candace doesn’t need a guy like Trent anymore. She realized that she has the gang now, and they genuinely care for her welfare.
At the bar, Candace finally gets the courage to tell Trent it’s over between them. But he disses her one last time and calls her weak. She defends herself, and Danny, Justin, Leslie, Brett, Shelly and Burski also come to her defense. They intimidated Trent, who’s actually the real “dum-dum.” He takes a break-up selfie before leaving Candace for good. What a real tool!
With Trent gone, the gang gave Candace a big warm group hug, with Danny doing a voice-over in the background.
ZaBradCo McDamon Bender
In another storyline, Brett thinks he’s date isn’t loving the way he kisses. He has to do something about this so as not to ruin his reputation with the gay community. Leslie attempts to teach him how to kiss, and she confirms that he’s awful.
But then, after a few more practices, Leslie realizes the problem. Brett is a romantic and a kiss for him should be from the heart. He can’t do that with Jake, since he’s not really into him all that much yet. So, she suggests that Brett imagines he’s kissing his dream guy, ZaBradCo McDamon Bender (for a combination of Zac Efron, Bradley Cooper, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Damon and Michael Fassbender). When they tried Leslie’s suggestion, Brett’s kiss was hot and perfect! He is going to imagine his dream guy when he’s kissing his dates from now on!
And that’s the recap for “Undateable” Season 2 Episode 2 “Candace’s Boyfriend Walks into a Bar” which aired on Tuesday, Mar. 24, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on NBC.
