A few months ago, Latino Review released a story that indicated the possibility of having a new “Bourne” movie series which will involve former actor Matt Damon. Indiewire then reported that this started the speculation that Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne and Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross will be meeting up in this new movie. The update appeared to make a lot of sense because the production of the movie was delayed an entire year. Nonetheless, these were all rumors and speculations as producer of the “Bourne” franchise, Frank Marshall, had to deny everything then and there because they were all still working things out. Little did everybody know, Universal is actually cooking up a more dynamic play for the films, altogether creating a “Bourne”-centralized universe that is akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Initial thoughts bearing the idea that Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross will be starring back to back into one Bourne movie seemed riveting enough for Bourne fanatics to hold on to. However, everyone was brought a-back when Matt Damon’s reason for not reprising the role was due to director Paul Greengrass’ statement that his “Bourne” masterpieces have reached their end. Rumors just didn’t seem to add everything up with director Justin Lin and actor Jeremy Renner’s “Bourne” still being pursued for another production.

Deadline then finally makes it all clear when they confirmed that Universal is instigating the reunion of Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass for another “Bourne” film. As it would seem, the production is very much adamant in making it happen that they are slating its release on July 16, 2016 — the date that was previously assigned for an untitled “Bourne” film. With this being put into perspective, the Jason Bourne movie will be stepping within the development of the spinoff sequel of “The Bourne Legacy.” In retrospect, Universal is very much determined to continue such series, as well as recreating an all-new different, but very much connected, “Bourne” franchise, broadening the franchise base that is somewhat similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that everyone has come to love. This concludes the fact that franchise-seeking Universal now has both “Bourne” movie series in hand. What’s your take on this new update? Is it just genius or too overbearing?

That concludes our scoop on the creation of a new “Bourne” franchise with Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon. Keep tabs on Movie News Guide (MNG) for more updates in the entertainment world.
