‘The Vampire Diaries’ Spoilers: Elena’s Look-Alike and Caroline’s Pregnancy
The seventh season of “The Vampire Diaries” is all set to return on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 8:00 PM. While actress Nina Dobrev’s return couldn’t be made possible, “ The Vampire Diaries’” the producers have smartly brought on Leslie-Anne Huff, who looks like Dobrev, to romance Ian Somerhalder’s character Damon Salvatore. WARNING: This article will contain spoilers for “The Vampire Diaries'” seventh season.
Huff will be seen portraying the role of the evil vampire hunter Rayna sometime during the season.
Casting someone who looks like Dobrev for the seventh season is a clever move, especially as the show’s ratings are deteriorating, and as the CW decided to reschedule the show to another time slot, for the first time in the show’s history.
Fans have been speculating on whether they would be bringing Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) back, and were really wishing for her return, which means that bringing someone on who looks like her might bring about rumors of this sort. However, “The Vampire Diaries” executive producer Caroline Dries accepts the fact that Huff looks like Dobrev but insists that it was just a mere coincidence.
Dries further told TV Line that she hasn’t met Huff yet personally, and that she believes that she is “perfect for the role”, despite the fact that she resembles Dobrev a lot.
There have also been speculations that Somerhalder might leave the show as Elena’s absence leaves him no romantic interest.
It seems as though Huff’s role in the seventh season has been pitched in order to bring back viewers.
Somerhalder then stated that it would be alright if his character had more love interests, and teased that “as long as he can fit up to eight sorority girls, then that’s how big we should make the bed.” He further went on to add that this fits his character perfectly, especially as he’s not married yet.
The upcoming season will be more focused on introducing new characters and the evolution of Damon and his brother, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley).
Recently, the show’s showrunner, Julie Plec, in her “Julie’s Diary” column on Entertainment Weekly, revealed the reason behind Caroline Forbes’ (Candice King) pregnancy.
She revealed that they wanted to “put Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) on a good path for season seven, we felt so terrible about having slaughtered not just his wife but also his twins.”
Then, King called them up one day saying that she was pregnant, which then allowed them to explain her pregnancy on the show by letting her become the surrogate mother to the twins.
