Vikings Season 4 Episode 11 Spoiler: History May Have Teased Ragnar Lothbrok’s Death [Watch]
Viewers have followed the journey of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) from farmer to becoming king in the span of four seasons. But, is it time for the warrior to head his group to Valhalla? History recently released a teaser that seems to foretell the end of his story on Vikings.
Ragnar Lothbrok had a long life: he has fought many battles, lost friends, lost his family. But, the day of reckoning is yet to come.
King Aelle’s Snake Pit
According to real-life accounts, Ragnar’s legendary story ended when he was captured by the Anglo-Saxon king, Aella of Northumbria. As a result, he was thrown into a snake pit to die.
This prompted his three sons Ubbe, Hvitserk and Ivar the Boneless launch an attack to avenge the murder of their father. This also led the Vikings to invade East Anglia.
From the looks of it, despite his absence, Ragnar’s children were primed to become good warriors. Ivar, who has a disability, leads an attack in the trailer released earlier this year by History.
A Suicide in Vikings?
However, it might not be King Aelle who will take the life of the great Ragnar Lothbrok. In the teaser below, the Viking finds a tree with branches high above the ground. He looks around to see if anyone is watching, throw a rope over a branch, then kick his horse away. The video ends with a horrible choking sound.
That he will take his own life sounds rather uncharacteristic for the Viking leader. According to show creator Michael Hirst, while Ragnar does have a death wish, he would like to die in battle.
“So Ragnar is very motivated by what often motivated Vikings; to avenge something,” Hirst once told The Hollywood Reporter. ” To justify his life by doing something significant that the gods would applaud.”
Vikings Season 4 Episode 11 airs on Nov. 30 on History.
