Vin Diesel Receives Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nomination for ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ [WATCH VIDEO]
With Oscar season approaching, many film critics have started their predictions and analysis on whom should or should not get a nod at the 87th Academy Awards. According to the New York Times, Manohla Dargis has listed Vin Diesel for his role as Groot in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Read on for further details of this scoop.
Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is the highest grossing film of 2014. Diesel’s Groot character is a tree-like humanoid who is the accessory of Rocket. Diesel provided the voice and motion capture for Groot. He also provided Groot’s voice for several foreign-language releases of the film.
Diesel expressed his gratitude for being included on Dargis’s list of potential Oscar nominees.
“Grateful for the opportunity to breathe life into such a unique and rewarding character… Happy Creative…,” shared Diesel on Facebook.
Awards won by Diesel include: MTV Movie Award (2002) for Best On-Screen Team for “The Fast and the Furious,” (2001) shared with Paul Walker; an OFCS Award (1999) for Best Ensemble Cast Performance for Saving Private Ryan (1998), shared with Edward Burns, Matt Damon, Jeremy Davies, Adam Goldberg, Tom Hanks, Barry Pepper, Giovanni Ribisi and Tom Sizemore.
Awards won by “Guardians of the Galaxy” include: CinemaCon Award 2014 for Breakthrough Performer of the Year for Chris Pratt and Hollywood Blockbuster Award at Hollywood Film Awards. “Guardians of the Galaxy” has also been listed in Top 10 Films of the Year at Satellite Awards 2014.
It is the 10th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. The film was directed by James Gunn, who wrote the screenplay with Nicole Perlman. The cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro. On Oct. 28, 2014, Marvel announced that the sequel’s release date had been moved up to May 5, 2015.
Nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015. It will be held on Feb. 22, 2015 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Neil Patrick Harris will host the ceremony.
