‘Warcraft’ Movie Update: Sequel Being Considered Following 2016 Release, Says Director

The movie adaptation of the video game “Warcraft” will not be released in theatres until 2016, but director Duncan Jones is already thinking of the possibility of a sequel. The director, who has established his own name in the film industry, expressed hope that the first “Warcraft” movie will set the stage for more sequels in the coming years. Read on to learn more about this scoop.

“Warcraft” is by far one of the most popular video games as of date and it really is not a surprise that the game is joining one of the many platforms being translated into the big screen. While the movie adaptation of the video game is still up for a 2016 release, director Duncan Jones is already considering sequels for the franchise.

“I know that my job in this first film is to establish certain characters, places and culture while telling a story that a broad audience can be excited by! Hopefully, if I have done my job right, people will want to know and see more,” Jones said, according to Cinema Blend.

Jones also admitted in a separate interview with Wired that the challenge of translating the video game into the big screen is attracting both gamers and non-gamers to watch the movie.

The director, who has helmed several films in the past including, “Moon” and “Source Code,” revealed that they tried to keep it as close to reality as possible despite relying on many VFX. Jones also revealed that the inspiration for the Orcs was no other than “The Avengers’” very own, The Hulk.

“He absolutely nailed that character, and orcs feel like they may have some of the same genetic background as the Hulk… It was a match made in heaven,” he said.

The upcoming “Warcraft” movie will see the first encounter between the humans and orcs, with the members of The Alliance and The Horde taking the center stage.
