Weird Loners Review + Recap: Doomed for Cancellation

FOX’s new comedy show “Weird Loners” premiered just recently on Tuesday, Mar. 31, 2015, but TV by the Numbers already claimed sure cancellation of the show. Read on to know why.

According to the Renew/Cancel Index of the TV by the Numbers, which predicts the cancellation or renewal of scripted primetime shows, “Weird Loners” only generated 0.41. The show was included in the index table for the 2014-2015 season, which would end in May 2015. The results are from Dec. 29, 2014 to Apr. 5, 2015.

The site claimed that “Weird Loners is certain to be canceled” on May this year. It explained that the sitcom’s premiere only has 0.7 rating based on adults 18-49. It added that Cancellation Bear would not write anymore about the show.

Based on @TVTomShaw’s humorous note from Bubble Watch, the fate of “Weird Loners” is similar to “The Lone Gunmen” and “Lone Star.” It claimed curse from the word “Lone.”

Despite the low viewer ratings, “Weird Loners” actually has a favorable response from some critics. Metacritic gave it 58 percent,, 8.2 out of 10 and IMDb, 7.8 out of 10.

Geeks of Doom considered the premiere episode “funny.” However, with Episode 2 entitled “Weird Dance,” the site described it as “a bit less funny this week.”

In the premiere episode entitled “Pilot,” four weirdos were introduced. Caryn (Becki Newton) and Eric (Nate Torrence) were neighbors. Eric was still living with his father while Caryn had a young roommate. Unfortunately, Eric’s father died and Caryn’s roommate was pretty popular with men. Meanwhile, Eric’s cousin named Stosh (Zachary Knighton) was fired from work because of his reputation with women. Eventually, the cousins decided to live together. After escorting Eric home, Zara (Meera Rohit Kumbhani) considered Caryn’s rent notice. Caryn almost married a boring man but felt something more with Stosh.

“Weird Loners” is directed by Jake Kasdan and written by creator Michael J. Weithorn.
