West Ham Returns to the EPL
West Ham United will play again next season in the English Premier League after defeating Blackpool in a Championship playoff match in Wembley. Ricardo Vaz Te, a forward from Portugal, scored the winning goal in the 86th minute of play. The win is worth an estimated $145 million dollars for West Ham.
Sam Allardyce, the West Ham manager vowed he would return the club to the Barclay’s Premier league in its first attempt after being relegated last season. His players helped him end good on his word. Carlton Cole scored the first goal for West Ham in the first half. Thomas Ince scored the equalizer however, just after the halftime break.
The majority of the second half was end to end and West Ham and Allardyce were beginning to get worried. However, Vaz Te changed all that as he netted the winner just four minutes before the match ended.
Even though West Ham scored eight goals in their two matches against Blackpool during the regular season, they looked nervous in the game’s early stages. Early on Blackpool squandered at least three legitimate chances to score.
West Ham finally settled in and in the 33rd minute, Cole netted a cross from his teammate to put West Ham ahead half.
The win for West Ham moves them up to the Premier league with two other teams from the Championship league. The Premier league means more money from television rights, better competition and more money through their advertisers. It also will mean higher wages for the players when their contracts expire or are renegotiated.
