WGN Greenlights ‘Titans’ and Eyes ‘Underground’

WGN America is a network that is expanding in its projects, especially as it already has the original series “Salem,” which has been renewed for another season, and “Manhattan,, which premiered recently. The network is adding more television shows to its name as, according to Deadline, it has just greenlit two new projects entitled “Titans” and “Underground.” Read on to learn more about the story.

“Titans,” the first of the two projects currently being developed, is a straight to order series, with thirteen episodes. The drama tells the story of the Farrell clan, who have been living high up in the Appalachian mountains ever since. As outsiders, they will defend their homestead and their way of life in any way they can. The series is created and written by Peter Mattei and will be produced by Peter Tolan (“Rake,” “Rescue Me”) and actor Paul Giamatti. Mattei will also serve as an executive producer of the project.

“Underground,” the second project, is currently being developed. It has started pre-production and has already opened up a writer’s room but has not been given an official go ahead yet. This historical drama is set right before the Civil War and is based on the Underground Railway movement — the movement that helped slaves in the South gain freedom by smuggling them up North through the Underground Railway system. The drama will focus on the slaves who escaped up North, the network of people who helped them escape and on the group of mercenaries who have to hunt the escaped slaves down. “Underground” is created and written by Misha Green (“Sons of Anarchy”) and Joe Pokaski (“CSI”, “Heroes”), who will also serve as the drama’s executive producers. Joining them in producing are Akiva Goldsman (“I Am Legend,” “A Beautiful Mind”), Tory Tunnell (“Awake,” “Trumbo”) and Joby Harold (“Edge of Tomorrow,” “Awake”).

Both projects hail from Sony Pictures TV and hope to grace the television screens by 2015. Hopefully, both television series will be joined by another currently developing project entitled “Ten.” According to Variety, this short series will be based on the Ten Commandments.

And that’s the latest news on WGN’s projects for 2015, “Titans” and “Underground.” For more news and updates on “Titans” “Underground” and other upcoming television shows, keep following Movie News Guide (MNG).
